Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMW) earns its name due to its extremely long molecular chains, resulting in strong intermolecular forces. There are different types of UHMW with varying qualities, each possessing distinct properties.
Highly valued in the industrial sector, it can be used with chemicals and corrosives, and it's resistant to abrasion, impacts, and wear. It has a low absorption rate but is susceptible to thermal expansion. It's important to note that UHMW cannot be glued and is challenging to weld. Different grades are available, such as recycled, TIVAR 88, CERAM-P, and several others.
